The Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, has instructed all field offices in the affected areas to intensify awareness campaigns and urge residents in flood-prone zones to move to safer ground. She stressed that communities in Kebbi, Niger and Kwara States should take extra caution as they are most at risk.

Mrs Umar also appealed to the state governments to work closely with their emergency agencies and local committees to activate contingency plans that will reduce the impact of the floods.

She gave the assurance that NEMA is fully committed to coordinating efforts to protect lives and livelihoods along the River Niger.
