In a statement on Tuesday, NENF leader Dominic Alancha said Nigeria’s unity depends on fair religious and ethnic representation. He noted that Tinubu’s 2023 decision to run with Shettima drew heavy criticism and alienated millions of Christians, even though it secured victory for the APC.

The group cautioned that the ruling party risks losing key Middle Belt states such as Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Kogi and the FCT, as well as Christian-dominated areas of Kaduna, Bauchi, Borno and Gombe, if the same strategy is repeated. While acknowledging Shettima’s competence, the forum insisted that a northern Christian running mate would strengthen APC’s base and broaden its appeal. It also warned that ignoring calls for religious balance could inflame tensions and damage national stability.

The group urged Tinubu to publicly reject the Muslim–Muslim ticket and adopt a more inclusive approach, arguing that this would rebuild trust and improve the party’s chances in 2027.
